26/09/2019 - 28/09/2019
In the days from 26th to 28th September the first Climate Camp in Northern Hesse took place in the Nordstadtpark in Kassel, organized by Klimagerechtigkeit Kassel (KligK), the local groups of Extinction Rebellion (XR), Fridays for Future (FFF), the Falken, the political communes in the Kassel area (Interkomm) and with the support of the Asta of the University of Kassel.
The idea to organize a climate camp in Kassel originated from the climate strike week called by Fridays for Future (FFF). FFF called for various forms of action and protest to demonstrate the urgency of effective and immediate climate policy action. Furthermore, the organizers identify themselves with the campaign #by2020WeRiseUp, which in view of the climate crisis fundamentally questions the capitalist economic order and argues for alternatives and has announced a first wave of action for autumn 2019. The protest must become more colourful, broader, louder and not only address infrastructures of fossil energy production – it goes into everyday life and all facets of our capitalist lifestyle: How we live, how we heat, how we move, what we buy, how we work, how we live together, how we travel, … The focus of our camp was therefore not on action, but on networking, strategic exchange and reflection on our forms of action and agendas.
It takes a lot of us to make this uprising happen. We need you to shape this process with us.
