“Zähne putzen” (german for “to brush one’s teeth”) is a project with the goal of enabling sustainable and long-term activism.
It got created for activistists who are burnt out, are struggling with mental health problems, suffered from repression, or who simply need a rest, a breather or time to prepare.
The networks of ecovillages (Global Ecovillage Network) and political communities (Kommuja) have been working for years to build a world that is tantamount to a utopia and a system change. Numerous people with open hearts are working here on different adjustments for a new society. From ecologically sustainable lifestyles, self-sufficiency, a structure of mindful, appreciative coexistence to alternative, capitalism-critical ways of dealing with money, such as common economy / free flow, or educational alternatives, e.g. in the form of their own free schools. Clay straw bale houses, permaculture, meditation & yoga, purification plants, vegan-regional organic nutrition, research on new models of partnership and love – all this and much more can be found in the community movement.
Over time, numerous experiences in dealing with group dynamics as well as skills for group processes and organizational forms have accumulated in the “community research spaces”. Nonviolent communication, forum, radical therapy, sociocracy, we-process, systemic constellation, consensus procedures or connecting rituals are just a few examples.
At the Sulzbrunn symposium “Rebel*Innen des Friedens” in May 2019 there was the realization: As parts of the socio-ecological change the movements of the communities and the political activists want to network more.
GEN and Kommuja show solidarity with the protests and actions by meanwhile providing their spaces and competences for the initiative ‘Zähne putzen’ to community projects all over Germany. Because we all want a system change!
